Essex- Taras Natyshak MPP Essex says he is proud to be able to present the Eve Society for the Advancement of Women’s Voices in Public Policy’s Lady Agnes Glass Slipper Award to Elisha Giang, a graduating student from Lakeshore Discovery School.
The Eve Society advocates and provides opportunity for women to achieve gender parity in government and to elevate the voices of women in public policy making.
The Lady Agnus Glass Slipper Award is presented to the winner of the annual essay competition held by the Eve Society for Grade 8 girls from across Ontario. Elisha’s essay was the Grand Prize Winner.
This year’s topic was:
WHAT DO GRADE 8 GIRLS IN 2017 THINK THE EVOLUTION OF THE PROMISE OF CONFEDERATION MIGHT LOOK AND FEEL LIKE IN 2042 -- JUST 25 YEARS FROM NOW -- AND WHAT IMPACT COULD GENDER EQUITY HAVE ON THE LIVES OF GIRLS IN 2042?
“I want to see change but change can only happen if society’s expectations are corrected … Someday gender equality will happen, I may not have the same rights as men today, but I know I will someday ….I hope that one day girls don’t feel obligated to pick a career because people say it’s what you should do, not what you want to do” said Eisha.
“It is such a privilege for me to be able to present this award to Elisha today.”
“Our collective future is bright and in good hands when we have more girls like Elisha becoming aware of their opportunities and groups like the Eve Society providing encouragement, recognition and opportunity for girls and women to raise their voices and build our communities” said Natyshak.
