re: Windsor Essex Hospital Project
The plan for a new state-of-the-art hospital in Windsor and Essex County is moving forward. Legal challenges have been dealt with by the courts and the purchase of the land has been completed.
The new hospital is a priority not just for Windsor and Essex County but also more broadly for southwestern Ontario as a whole. We have not yet seen the commitments to timelines and funding that are critical to ensure this becomes a reality. My community here in Essex needs concrete guarantees, not just promises.
Now is the time for the provincial government to move this project forward by advancing the application for the new hospital to stage 2. This will unlock funding to begin the important steps of developing programming, staffing, equipment and the preliminary design of the facility. The people of Windsor and Essex County are eager to participate in these exciting next steps.
The construction of this new hospital will provide a significant boost in jobs and economic activity as we look to rebound from the unfortunate effects of the pandemic across Ontario. There has been an incredible amount of work done by Windsor Regional Hospital and the local residents who served on the various committees to develop this plan to date. Local elected officials have demonstrated tremendous leadership and unity in their support of the new hospital. Most importantly the community has taken the time to provide their input through the community engagement process.
The people of Windsor and Essex County have done their part. It is now up to the provincial government to advance this plan to the next stage. I am urging you and your cabinet to provide the necessary approvals and funding for stage 2. I know that our community is ready and is looking forward to doing the hard work that lay ahead to modernize health care delivery in our region for generations to come. I look forward to your prompt response.
