Essex- MPP Taras Natyshak (NDP Essex) has partnered with Sun County AAA Hockey to provide surplus hockey sweaters to kids in remote fly-in communities in Northern Ontario.

Grant Higginbottom, Equipment Manager for the Sun County Panthers AAA Hockey Association, contacted Taras with an offer to donate approximately 300 NHL quality hockey jerseys.

Sun County saw this as an opportunity to help support young hockey players in communities where resources are tight, but the love of the game still flourishes.

” I know that Taras has made contacts throughout Ontario and he seemed like the perfect person to help direct our donations to a place where they would do the most good and be appreciated” said Higginbottom

Taras explains that “This initiative begun with the former MPP for Kenora Rainy River Howard Hampton.  Howard would gather up surplus equipment and distribute it to remote communities in Northwestern Ontario.  My colleague and current MPP for that riding, Sarah Campbell, has graciously decided to continue with this project .”

The jerseys will be joining Sarah Campbell on an upcoming flight back to her riding in the very near future.  The jerseys will serve as ambassadors of goodwill from Essex County.
